The Words We Speak

I overheard a conversation recently where someone was watching a woman online — she seemed to have it all together. Beautiful home, thriving business, joy radiating through her videos. As they watched, they sighed and said, “I’ll never know what it’s like to live that kind of life.”

That one line stuck with me. I couldn’t help but think, why say that? Why talk yourself out of your own blessings?

The response came quick — “You can’t talk yourself out of blessings. What’s for you is for you.”

And that’s true… but it’s not the whole truth. Because while what’s meant for you is yours, your words still matter. If you never believe you’ll see it, you’ll never reach for it.

Faith Without Expectation

Faith isn’t just believing GOD can — it’s living like He will. You can’t keep speaking defeat and then be surprised when victory feels out of reach.

Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Our mouths plant the seeds our lives eventually grow. If your words are rooted in doubt, all you’ll ever harvest is limitation.

What’s for You Still Requires You

Yes, what’s for you is for you — but faith is the bridge that gets you there. You can’t reject what you’ve been praying for with your words and expect it to still show up.

It’s like GOD saying, “I’ve already set the table,” and us responding with, “Yeah, but that meal probably isn’t for me.”

We don’t realize how often we cancel what GOD’s trying to confirm. Faith doesn’t ignore reality; it just refuses to let reality define what’s possible.

Guarding What You Hear

You also have to be careful not to let those words infiltrate your mind — especially as a child. Hearing someone speak like that can shape your beliefs without you even realizing it.

You grow up repeating the same phrases, carrying the same limits, and convincing yourself that greatness belongs to “other people.”

Generational doubt is real. It hides inside what sounds like casual honesty.
But if you don’t break that pattern, it keeps you from ever tasting the life GOD has for you.

The Shift

So now, I’m more careful with my words — and the words I allow around me. Because language builds atmospheres. It doesn’t just describe where you are; it directs where you’re headed.

A Prayer for a Faith-Filled Mouth and Mind

LORD,
Help me hear myself when I speak.
When doubt tries to take the mic, remind me to replace it with faith.
Teach me to speak life — not out of pride, but out of trust.

Protect my mind from words that plant fear or limitation.
And for every child who’s heard, “You’ll never have that” or “That life isn’t for you,”
I ask You to uproot those seeds and replace them with truth.

Let our mouths and minds agree with what You’ve already spoken — that we are chosen, capable, and covered.

In JESUS’ name, Amen.
